Online Journal Access and Policies on Ease of Access to Scientific Literature

The Ad Physicus online journal can be accessed by anyone with internet access. The abstracts of published manuscripts will be freely available on the Ad Physicus website and in all research databases that index Ad Physicus (see below for indexing status). Full access to a published manuscript will be available to anyone with an Ad Physicus account who pays the nominal fee (currently $2 USD) for article access. Once a nominal fee is paid, that reader will have lifetime access to that article through the Ad Physicus website. We at Ad Physicus believe in the principles of open access research, especially those that strive to make scientific research more broadly available to the global scientific community. However, we also believe that the international trend towards open-access publishing has resulted in an increasing number of journals charging article processing and editorial fees to authors, who are already giving their hard-earned work product to those journals for free. It is our strong opinion that this general trend is dangerous to the global scientific community as it promotes predatory journal practices that take advantage of scientists and significantly increase the barriers to access that scientists already face in the publication of their work. By charging a nominal fee for article access and sharing a portion of this fee with the submitting author.
