What makes Ad Physicus different from other life sciences journals?

Ad Physicus means “to the scientist” in Latin. Our journal was founded on the principle that scientists deserve to be fairly compensated for their hard-earned work product and expertise. We are therefore committed to offering all of our published authors a publishing royalty agreement in which a significant share of the money generated from purchased access to your article is paid back to you as a royalty. The more successful your article is at attracting readers, the more money you will earn.

How much does it cost for readers to access an article?

It currently costs readers US$2 for unlimited access to an article. It is very important to us that we maintain a nominal purchase price for articles so that all published works are easily accessible to your readers. Although we have no plans to change this price, prices are subject to change.

How much are authors paid for every reader who purchases access to their article?

At our current price of US$2 paid to Ad Physicus for article access, US$1 is paid to the author/s, 35 cents are paid to financial processing fees, and 65 cents are kept by the journal for administration and journal maintenance costs. Authors currently keep the majority of money generated by paid access to their article.

How do I qualify for receiving publishing royalties on my manuscript?

Every author in good standing with Ad Physicus can receive royalties on a published manuscript if s/he and all her/his co-authors sign the Publishing Royalty Agreement. If one or more authors on a manuscript does not agree to the Publishing Royalty Agreement, then no authors receive royalties for that manuscript.

How do you divide royalties on publications with numerous authors?

The submitting author will receive all royalties generated by an article. It is up to the submitting author and co-authors to decide if and how royalties will be shared, and it is up to the submitting author to share those royalties accordingly. We have a strict ethics policy detailed in our author guide. Anyone suspected of or caught abusing our royalty program will be disqualified from future participation.

How often are royalties paid?

Royalties are paid annually. Please see the author guide for detailed information on the Publishing Royalty Agreement, including details on when royalties are paid.

Is Ad Physicus indexed on Medline/ PubMed?

Ad Physicus is a new journal, and the application process for inclusion in Medline/ PubMed is at least a 2-year process. We are committed to completing this process and will keep you notified as we continue to strive towards this goal.

How does your peer-review process work?

Existing peer-review practices across the life and medical sciences disciplines are highly varied and, sometimes, quite problematic. We believe that nobody knows who your peers are better than you do. This is why our peer-review panels for any submitted manuscript are comprised of a minimum of 5 individuals with advanced degrees or faculty positions who are recommended by the submitting author. Your Ad Physicus editor will review the proposed peer-reviewers to ensure they are appropriately credentialed. The editor may also recommend additional peer-reviewers. A minimum of 2 peer-reviewers must complete satisfactory reviews of your manuscript (as determined by the editor) in order for peer-review to be considered complete. More than 2 peer-reviews are considered ideal.
